DTN COMMENTS:  Still just a few bids on the table in parts of Kansas, but 
all other areas remain very quiet. It is very possible that further 
business may be delayed until sometime on Friday as total trade volumes 
for the week are rather light.

Yesterday asking prices were around $236 in the South, and $374 in the 
North, a light trade was reported in Nebraska and Iowa with dressed deals 
marked at mostly $372, $8 lower than last week's weighted averages, light 
scattered business took place in the South and was at $235 to $236, $3 
lower in Texas, and $5 lower in Kansas. 

Today's slaughter totaled 108,000 head, 3,000 smaller than last week, and 
14,000 less than a year ago. Cattle futures closed sharply higher on live 
contracts, up 87 to 130, and feeder issues ended the day mixed, mostly 
modestly higher, up 75 to off 50. Beef cutouts are expected to close 
higher with moderate box movement.
