DTN COMMENTS:  A light trade is being reported in parts of Nebraska today 
with dressed sales marked at $360, $4 higher than last week's weighted 
average. Bids in the South are now around $232, but so far they are being 
passed as they remain a couple of dollars below current asking prices of 
around $234. 

Today's slaughter totaled 116,000 head, 9,000 more than last week, but 
4,000 less than a year ago. Saturdays kill is estimated at 33,000 head, 
bringing the weekly total to 474,000 head, 48,000 greater than the prior 
week, but 31,000 below the previous year. Cattle futures closed sharply 
higher on live contracts, up 297 to 440, while feeder issues ended the 
day sharply to significantly higher, up 585 to 900. Beef cutouts are 
expected to close higher with light to moderate box movement.
