DTN COMMENTS:  Still just a few bids on the table this afternoon in 
Kansas and Nebraska. We have heard that a Major has offered to call-in at 
$370 in Eastern Nebraska, but we have not heard of any actual asking 
prices in the North as of yet, in the South they are around $243-plus. 
Packer inquiry should continue to improve as the day progresses. 
Significant trade volume will be delayed until sometime Friday. 

Today's slaughter totaled 119,000 head, 1,000 more than last week, but 
5,000 less than a year ago. Live cattle futures closed mixed, mostly 
modestly lower, off 7 to up 135, while feeder contracts ended the day 
sharply lower, off 172 to 482. Beef cutouts are expected to close higher 
with light to moderate box movement.
